Farmers - How the Scheme Works
1) Farmers register with the Scheme for the collection and disposal of fallen stock, and a Direct Debit mandate is set-up.
2) Registering for the scheme is free.
3) Upon becoming a member, farmers will receive a list of all the approved collectors operating in their postcode area and the prices they charge for picking-up different classes of stock.
4) When members have a fallen animal they contact a registered collector of their choice. Collectors are required to collect all species for which they have provided prices, and may not refuse any reasonable request to collect stock.
5) After completing the collection of the animal/s, the collector must retain a copy of the collection receipt and if requested provide a copy to the member.
6) Members will receive a monthly statement from NFSCo CIC summarising the categories and quantities of fallen stock collected. The statement will list the actual cost of collection and the charge to the member. An NFSCo CIC administration fee of £1.95 for members who receive statements by post or a reduced fee of £1.45 for those opting for email invoicing will be applied to the monthly statement – but only if a member uses the service in the same month.
7) An annual compliance statement is issued once a year, which details all collections through the year. This enables a farmer to show any compliance inspector an up-to-date record of all fallen stock collections through NFSCo CIC over the past twelve months. There is a small administration fee to cover the report generation of the annual compliance statement, which costs £4.95 plus VAT. Members must contact NFSCo CIC, preferably by email, if they do not wish to receive the compliance statement. This will be invoiced on the 31st January annually.
Members have 14 days to dispute any items on the statement. After this time, NFSCo CIC will debit the member for undisputed amounts using the variable Direct Debit mandate set up at registration.
Equine End of Life Service
NFSCo also provides a facility for equine services and information to better help horse, pony and donkey owners with end of life decision making, and the practicality of dealing with it.
The Equine End of Life Service provides information on euthanasia decision-making and the options for removal and disposal of the animal. It also offers access to experienced, skilled and sympathetic (non-veterinary) euthanasia and collection professionals by harnessing the network of independent and fully licenced collectors that NFSCo works with. They abide to the highest welfare standards, and bio-security levels are strictly upheld at all times.

Collectors – How the Scheme Works
- All premises approved under the Animal By-Products Regulations are able to register as collectors for NFSCo CIC including:
- Hunt kennels
- Maggot farms
- Registering for the scheme is free.
- Collectors provide charges to NFSCo CIC for the postcodes in which they wish to operate. These charges can be on a headage basis for cattle, sheep, pigs and horses, and on a weight or volume basis of a standard container for other species. All charges submitted to NFSCo CIC are kept confidential and are handled impartially, independently and securely.
- Charges are reviewed and can be updated four times a year when the quarterly re-pricing exercise takes place.
- Farmer members contact a collector when they have fallen stock to pick-up, and arrange a suitable time for the animals to be collected. A signed receipt is left for the member, with details of the collection.
- A monthly self billing invoice is automatically submitted to NFSCo CIC providing details of the members, collection points, species, categories, quantities of fallen stock collected and charges during the month.
- Any jobs which are submitted to NFSCo CIC online by 9pm on the last day of the month will be paid directly into the collectors account within 4 weeks.
What exactly is KoLeCt
KoLeCt is an online solution based around two Apps, which can be used on a smartphone or tablet. KoLeCt has been designed specifically for the fallen stock industry and allows collectors to manage the ordering, logging and job information electronically.
One App enables drivers to receive their collections, the other App enables members to book collections direct with the collectors office or alternatively they can still contact them by phone to book in the collection..
All information goes through a central server (the KoLeCt Server), ensuring requests are logged, collections are made and payments are received, in a more timely way. Collectors access the information by logging on to the Secure Web Portal.
How does KoLeCt work?
The process is exactly the same as the current fallen stock collection system, except that information can be sent and received via a smartphone, tablet and PC.
The collection request can be placed by the farmer with their chosen collector by either telephone or the member App. Once the collector has received the request the collector can then send the collection to the driver App via the Web portal, the fallen stock is collected and the driver uses their App to mark the collection as completed and an electronic receipt is emailed to the farmer.
